This story serves as great commentary on all religious conflicts, especially the Crusades. It does an excellent job of explaining the hypocrisy of forceful militaristic conversions.

My interest sagged a bit in the middle, but Hiromu Arakawa's art is top-notch in communicating movement in the fight scenes and seige, as well as wry humor in the character banter, which keeps this from being a grim title.
All the pieces are starting to come into place for what promises to be an an absorbing series, both on the epic scale of countries and political intrigue, as well as the coming-of-age of Arslan.

Since I read the previous volume more than a year ago, this volume turned out to be a bit confusing with regard to all the different names and places.

WIth the concept of war and the number of people who have been murdered throughout the pages whether seen or mentioned it would be best to make sure younger readers are mature enough to handle such material before handing this to them.
Times are desperate for young prince Arslan as he Daryun who find themselves at the home of the legendary strategist and now reclusive artist whatever travesty his art might be we do not get to see yet at least in need of his help.
Con These books are rated Teen. Convincing a man who gave away his once noble title to escape court politics is not the easiest of tasks though as the duo soon find out.
However trouble lurks in the forest as a search party comes across the cabin. In the meantime Lusitanians are attacking Ecbatana with the religious fervor of their god Yaldabaoth pushing them on showing how easy it was and can still be to use beliefs to justify even the most horrendous of crimes against others.
Without giving to much of the plot away I find the book series is starting to pick up some steam as more characters are introduced even as old ones were lost in the first volume and used to demoralize people in Ecbatana and this is starting to feel like it has the potential to be kinda liek a Suikoden adventure where a large variety of people meet and work together even though many of them had no idea who each other were with the exception of small groups of comrades.
I am hopeful certain bad guys get their just desserts and that things work out in this tale created by the same mangaka that did Fullmetal Alchemist and Hero Tales.
My favorite part of the book would definately have to be when Narsus asked Daryun which path he took to his cabin and Daryun smirks and shrugs.

Arslan is so Having been so accustomed to the Fullmetal Alchemist gang, specifically the lead character Ed, it's taking me a lot of time getting used to Arslan's character and his perpetually worried-looking face.
Not to say it's a bad thing though. Unlike Ed who's easy to read, Arslan is rather complicated. He's depicted as a mild-mannered one with weak mental and physical capacity, He exudes innocence and incompetence but all these seem to belie something unknown yet.
There's so Arslan is so There's so many things he doesn't understand about the kind of world he's living in, but he is obviously a curious person.
Given that he's bound to experience a lot of awful things as wars come and go, I'm also curious as to how he will make out the experiences he will earn.
Something tells me that I'm about to experience another epic character development and I am so ready to jump into this bandwagon.

This is what I don't like about romaji the most. You can make up about twenty English spellings for one word that's written in katakana characters.
That Shapur guys in chapter 5 looks hell a lot like Roy Mustang. I can't believe Arakawa torutured him. On second thought or as I gathered from the forums Daryoon actually looks more like Kimblee than Lin-Greed.

I really miss it when manga does not start with a character profile and story so far intro page. Then things pick up as a few flashbacks help bring back previous events and the story gets back into military mode and the attack on the castle begins.
L A bit of a let down after the great start of vol. Large section of intrigue, traitors and battle violence as the castle is under siege.
Meanwhile Arslan and gang are avoiding the enemy as they try to return to the kingdom. The Queen plays a prominent role here though we don't get to know her character much further.
Two new characters are introduced both of suspicious natures, a masked man who appears to be a traitor to Pars but later we are not sure whose side he is on, the other is a roaming mercenary and lothario who seems to keep to the side who pays him but may actually be something more than he appears.
These two are intriguing and the book ends much better than it began. Am most interested at this point to go on to book three before deciding whether I'll continue with the series.

Beneath his soft and intellectual facade, Narsus is surprisingly also an incredible swordsman. Narsus' father Teos had several concubines in addition to a wife.
Narsus' mother was one of these concubines. Upon his birth, he and his mother were sent to live in Ecbatana where he studied until the age of Upon the realization that he did not have a male heir, Teos called for Narsus to return to Daylam.
Narsus is the only male of 9 half-sisters. Narsus was once a chief adviser and tactician under Andragoras, but because he found that there is no chance for him to clean up the corruption of the society in the government at that time, he left his office and become a hermit.
Elam is the son of two slaves that Narsus had freed when he became master of the house. The two slaves in his debt, asked Elam to watch over Narsus and be his personal servant.
Elam agreed and has hence forth been serving under Narsus since. Narsus cares very much for Elam which can be shown when he wanted to originally leave Elam in the care of a merchant as to not make Elam fight in a war.
This thinking of his was quickly refuted with Elam speaking up about how Narsus can not do anything by himself, Daryun complimenting Elam's skills as an archer, and Prince Arslan asking who would make the meals if Elam was gone.
But it is clear to know that Narsus cares very much for the boy and wishes the best for him. Daryun and Narsus have been friends since their childhood and they remained friends even after Narsus' exile from the kingdom.
They maintain a deep sense of respect for each other one seeking counsel from the other. Narsus however is the more level headed of the two and a master strategist.
In exchange for his loyalty, Arslan wants to compensate Narsus handsomely. Not with money nor power, he is willing to - although Arslan saw Narsus painting abilities first hand - make him court painter [2] , once he becomes the King of Pars.
